Judy Janes had worked as a senior clinical nurse in the Rush NICU for over two decades when her career path evolved into managing research projects focused on lactation and human milk. She completed certification for her IBCLC credential in 2004, and currently serves as one of two IBCLCs in the Rush NICU. Ms. Janes currently serves as a research specialist on all of the team’s externally funded studies, including the NIH grant. She secures informed consent from families, tests and oversees the implementation of research procedures, and assists with data collection, verification and entry. Ms. Janes has developed special expertise in the study and clinical management of breast pump technology, including fitting breast shields and designing and testing breast pump suction patterns. She is a skilled teacher for NICU staff and families, and is a popular speaker at professional conferences. Ms. Janes has presented her research at ILCA and at the International Society for Research in Human Milk and Lactation.
